A large Victorian house was converted into a comfortable modern home for a family with four young children. The garden was designed to echo the house, with elegant, simple lines, bright colours and plenty of opportunities for the children to have fun.
In the front garden, although planting is limited by the need for parking, colourful plants and warm, locally-sourced shingle enliven the front of the house. A fragrant climbing rose reaches up to the first floor windows.
Pleached hornbeams and a fence divide the back garden in two and screen the swimming pool and pool-house from the main house. The large lawn gives a feeling of space and is used for football. A deep border in scale with the large lawn is planted in a contemporary style and provides colour and texture right through the year. The generous terrace continues the lines of the house architecture.
